How Sugar Affects Nutrition
As a person who loves sweets, I have consistently battled with making sure that I don’t consume a lot of sugary foods. In my 20’s I can remember how I would down a whole package of Twizzlers in a day….. Like a big pack it was RIDICULOUS. I also remember during that time of my life I was very unhealthy and consumed a large amount of candy. I’m pretty sure back then I lived off of candy sadly to say.
Fast forward to present day, I’m very mindful of how much sugar I consume and I bake frequently at home so I can control the ingredients in my desserts and snack foods. Eating a lot of sugar is not only bad for our health but it places a detrimental effect on our overall nutrition and prevents us from eating real wholesome foods that provide nutrition that our bodies need.
When most of our diet is sugar, (I’m talking about those hidden sugars too! So check that yogurt of yours they are usually packed full of sugar and other artificial sweeteners), we skip out on getting enough of those vital micronutrients needed for our body to function and thrive.
One way to work on that sweet tooth is to practice mindful eating and to make sure your getting enough sleep! Sleep has been shown to help reduce those sugar cravings because lack of sleep affects brain function and appetite hormone levels. Get some ZZZzzz’s and save that sweet tooth of yours!
